Runtime Permission Request
A runtime permission request asks for a specific, narrow capability at the exact moment it's actually needed, rather than bundling every capability an extension or application might ever use into a single upfront, all-or-nothing prompt. This gives the user a genuinely informed decision to make — the request arrives with concrete context about what it's for, and the user can grant exactly the capability being requested while declining others they never actually encounter a need for.
The tradeoff is more frequent, smaller interruptions instead of one larger one, which is itself a real cost — a user facing constant small prompts may become just as prone to reflexively approving them as one facing a single large bundled request, if the pattern isn't designed carefully to reserve prompts for genuinely consequential moments.
